Sundance Film Festival: Global Short Film Project

Ricardo Perez Garrido

Probably you already know what the Sundance film festival is. You sure know its founder, Robert Redford. They have announced that next year a small group of directors will produce short films created specifically for its distribution in mobile devices. The money behind the initiative comes from the GSM Association (they organize the GSM World Congress, one of the big events of the industry). They will produce 3-5 minute films, to be delivered only through cell phones.

This is only one of the efforts to find the new "killer application" for the multimedia handsets that are going to take the market this Christmas, adding more computing and communications power to your pocket in hopes of convincing you to spend some spare money in entertainment... Movies, news, sports are some of the usual suspects for this business. What are not clear yet are the format and the payment solutions that will connect with the customer. Let's see what Santa Claus has for us this year.
